Mackay Region Showcased to the World

The Mackay Region will be displayed to the world this week as delegates from Mackay Tourism attend the 2018 Australian Tourism Exchange in Adelaide. The Australian Tourism Exchange is Australia’s largest annual travel and tourism business-to-business event.

Taking place at the Adelaide Convention Centre, the Australian Tourism Exchange brings together Australian tourism businesses, tourism wholesalers and retailers from around the world.

The event centres around business meetings, and networking events designed to provide international travel buyers with the opportunity to experience Australia’s tourism offering first-hand through pre and post event familiarisations.

The Mackay Region will be showcased to approximately 700 key buyer delegates from over 30 countries. Also attending will be more than 80 international and Australian media attendees including leading travel journalists, editors, broadcasters and digital influencers.

Mackay Tourism General Manager Tas Webber, and Marketing Manager Morgana McDeed, are joined by Sarina Sugar Shed Coordinator Glenys Mansfield and Brendan Frier from Barracrab Caravan Park, who together will be promoting The Mackay Region’s tourism destinations and experiences.

Tas Webber is confident the unspoilt nature based experiences of The Mackay Region will prove a major selling point to the conference attendees. “International visitors to Australia spent a record $41.3 billion for year ending December 2017 and The Mackay Region has the natural assets to capitalise on this considerable market”.

Mr Webber continued “The Mackay Region has recorded five successive quarters of international visitation growth and events such as the Australian Tourism Exchange puts our unforgettable experiences like the wallabies on the beach at Cape Hillsborough, platypus at Eungella and premier recreational fishing on display for the world to see”.

The Australian Tourism Exchange continues until Thursday 19 April.
