AGM Affirms Successful Year and a Bright Future
Thursday, 31 October saw Mackay Tourism hold its 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Harrup Park Country Club. The AGM reaffirmed the strong growth of tourism in The Mackay Region and set the stage for further success in 2020.
Speaking at the event were Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson, and Mackay Tourism’s Chair Michele Shea and Chief Executive Officer Tas Webber.
Mr Webber relayed to members the atmosphere of confidence that exists in Mackay’s tourism industry following eleven straight quarters of visitation growth.
“2018/19 was a remarkable year for tourism in The Mackay Region - a year defined by success, innovation and resilience. These twelve months have witnessed tourism’s continued growth in importance to The Mackay and Isaac Region economies, with our region featuring every more prominently as a ‘must visit’ destination,” he said.
“Looking ahead to 2020, strong visitor numbers and expenditure will continue to create demand for all sectors of the region’s tourism industry. This demand combined with the continued support of Mackay Tourism’s members, board, sponsors and stakeholders will build upon tourism’s ever-increasing economic and social credentials and opportunities,” explained Mr Webber.
Mackay Tourism also announced at the AGM, that Mr Webber had re-signed for another three years.
Mr Webber said, “It’s a very exciting time to be involved in tourism in The Mackay Region. I have complete confidence the region will continue its stellar growth as a tourism destination, and this is something that I’m looking forward to being a part of.”
Re-elected Chair Michele Shea will be joined on the Mackay Tourism Board by Directors Nic Willis, Matt Cielens, Cr. Jane Pickels, Cr. Justin Englert, Judy Langdon, Garry Porter and newly elected Director Brent Cran from Mycow Accommodation.
