Donations from tourism centre go to those in need

Mackay Tourism’s Visitor Information Centre has donated a large box of non-perishable items, toys and Christmas gifts to the Salvation Army, for those who require assistance this Christmas.

The donation box was filled by volunteers at the Mackay Information Centre over the last month.

Captain Lydia Spencer, of the Mackay Salvation Army, said she was very appreciative of the donation and it was one of many very generous organisations and individuals who have helped this year.

“We’ve been able to put together 180 toy hampers alone, not to mention all the food donations we’ve received,” she said.

“We’ve had a lot of community support.”

Mackay Tourism General Manager, Tas Webber, thanked the volunteer community at the Mackay Visitor Information Centre.

“Our volunteers already give so much of themselves through their volunteer work so we’re grateful to be able to provide a full box of goodies to those in need this Christmas.”
