Fishing Champion Visiting the Region

Mackay Tourism is pleased to welcome 3-time Australian Fishing Champion (AFC) title winner Dean Silvester to experience the premier fishing destination that is the Mackay Region.

Mr Silvester is an accomplished angler with accolades including three-time Bass Nation Angler of the Year, two Bass Championship Wins and three AFC Titles. Mr Silvester will be in the Mackay Region until Wednesday 7 March, during which time he will be taking two lucky anglers out fishing to catch their first Barramundi.

Mr Silvester will be promoting the Mackay Region as Australia’s premier fishing destination to his 5,367 Instagram followers, 4,632 Facebook fans and 2,233 YouTube subscribers.

Mr Silvester will be fishing Kinchant and Teemburra Dams well known to locals and visitors alike as a hotspot for big Barramundi, with regular catches topping the mythical one metre mark.

The Mackay Region is fast becoming a fishing mecca for anglers and Mr Silverster believes the region has a lot to offer anglers “With every visit I’m amazed by the huge variety of species and excellent boating and fishing facilities available here. I’ve fished all over Australia and I can say there’s nowhere else that offers a net free fishing zone, bluewater river fishing, rainforest streams and stocked impoundments all within an hour’s drive of a major regional city.”

“The reputation of the Mackay Region as a fishing destination is growing and I am delighted to share with my social media followers all that the region has to offer”.

General Manager of Mackay Tourism, Tas Webber, echoed Mr Silvester’s praise for the regions fishing credentials, “The Mackay Region is Australia’s premier fishing destination offering visitors world class fishing 365 days a year. We are pleased to welcome Dean to the region and I trust he and his considerable social media following will enjoy the many nature and adventure experiences The Mackay Region offers”
