Mackay Event wins Queensland Awards
Mackay’s reputation as a leading venue for major sporting and recreational events received another boost at the Outdoors Queensland Awards 2018, held in Brisbane last Friday.
The ZACH MACH Adventure Challenge won the Outdoor Event Award. Held in May, the event saw competitors from across the nation, test their endurance across the picturesque Pioneer Valley.
Event Promoter Peter Lister was also awarded the Encouraging Participation Award. Awarded to an individual who achieved significant success in encouraging participation in outdoor activities through innovative program development and/or marketing.
Mr. Lister said he was privileged to accept the award on behalf of the dedicated ZACH MACH team.
“To win the Outdoor Event of the Year is a great honour.”
“Our dedicated ZACH MACH community of organisers, sponsors, volunteers, competitors and supporters all worked incredibly hard”.
Mr Lister continued “this award is a worthy reflection of their efforts in developing the ZACH MACH Challenge into an event The Mackay Region can be proud of”.
“The terrain of the Pioneer Valley makes for a spectacular setting for the event, and the ZACH MACH theme of overcoming adversity, typifies the strength and resilience of the Mackay community”.
Mr. Lister was also awarded runner up in the Service to Sport category, at the following nights North Queensland’s Sport Foundation Awards night.
General Manager of Mackay Tourism, Tas Webber, congratulated Mr. Lister and the ZACH MACH team on their success.
“Events like the ZACH MACH Challenge, and their organisation teams and volunteers, are the lifeblood of Mackay’s events calendar”.
“Peter has made a significant contribution to growing Mackay as an event, and tourism destination”.
Mr Webber said “the Mackay Region supports our local events, and as a community we can be proud of the accolades Peter and the ZACH MACH Challenge have received”.
The ZACH MACH Challenge will be back in 2019, with competitors set for a fun, action packed adventure across the Pioneer Valley on Saturday, May 18.
