Nestled close to the coast north-west of Mackay is Newry Island, part of a group of hilly continental islands that form Newry Islands National Park. It is located approximately five kilometres north-west of Seaforth, 46 kilometres by road north-west of Mackay and can be accessed by private boat from the boat ramp at Victor Creek.

Newry Island features grassy open forest with gnarled ironbarks, bloodwoods and blue gums. Newry Island was once home to one of the earliest resorts in the greater Whitsunday area. Wander along the resort trail past the resort ruins and contemplate a bygone era. The Newry Island Circuit takes you through rainforest and open forest. Vantage points along the way offer views of nearby islands and the mainland.
