Picture tells 101 Things

There’s plenty to explore in The Mackay Region, and Jessica Hartree is well on her way to working that out as the winner of the 101 Things To Do in the Mackay Region competition.

After moving to Mackay in 2014, Jessica has since become a Mum to two little girls – Maggie (3) and Eadie (2) – and both her and her husband Simon are intent on making sure their daughters get plenty of fresh air and quality family time.

Her winning entry of Jess and Maggie in a hammock while camping at Cape Palmerston was taken on one of their many outdoor adventures.

“Cape Palmerston is just one of our favourite destinations – we really appreciate Mackay’s natural beauty, the awesome fishing, going 4WDing and camping,” Jess said.

“I think it’s important for our girls to see that part of life. We want them to see the beauty in life, not the beauty of a screen.”

“When I saw the 101 Things competition advertised, I knew we’d ticked off a lot of the list so I had a lot of photos to choose from and I thought we could be in for a chance.”

Eadie is also in the photo, sleeping in the portacot so that when she wakes up “it’s beneath that beautiful sky”.

“There’s an endless amount of things to do in Mackay. We like to be tourists in our own town, we want the kids to see everything they can in nature.”

Other favourite spots for the Hartrees include Eungella Dam, Cape Hillsborough, the Slade Point lookout (which is close to home) and fishing in the Pioneer River.

“We got little life jackets so the girls can come out with us.”

“It’s not far to drive to all of these beautiful places, it’s easy to find new places to visit and those memories for us as a family are really special.”

Mackay Tourism General Manager Tas Webber said the photo was selected as the winning entry because it also showed the “relaxed and peaceful” nature of The Mackay Region.

“Mackay has so much to offer, and Jess and her family are a great example of making the most of what we have in our own backyard.”

“Which is why we are also excited to announce that the original 101 Things To Do in The Mackay Region brochure from 2015 has been updated, and will be available at tomorrow’s Wine & Food Day in Queen’s Park.”

The new 101 Things brochure is also available from Visitor Information Centres across The Mackay Region. For more information on tourism experiences available in our region, visit www.mackayregion.com.
