Show Sunrise that M is for Mackay

Mackay Region locals and visitors are being encouraged to vote for Mackay, as Channel 7 program Sunrise showcases the A to Z of Australian towns.

After visiting destinations across Australia, Sunrise Weather Presenter Sam Mac is due to present from a city starting with M, on his A to Z tour of Australia.

Mackay will battle it out against Maryborough, to host the Sunrise weather team and have its region showcased to hundreds of thousands of viewers.

To shine light on The Mackay Region, and its abundance of majestic wildlife, marvelous scenery and its friendly, livable community, Mackay Tourism and Mackay Regional Council have produced a video to encourage people from across Australia to vote that M is for Mackay.

This ‘M is for Mackay’ video aired on Sunrise today, and will feature across the Mackay Regional Council, and Visit Mackay Facebook pages.

Voting that M is for Mackay, can be done at Voting closes at 7am Queensland time.

Spruiking for Mackay, is Mayor Greg Williamson, who encouraged people to support Mackay’s pitch as the perfect place for Sunrise.

“Us locals are tremendously proud of our magnificent region, and this is an opportunity to highlight to the nation, our slice of paradise”.

Cr Williamson continued “Voting that M is for Mackay, will put our great city on the map and onto the television screens of hundreds of thousands of Sunrise viewers”.

“The video we have created, demonstrates the action-packed events calendar, richness of spectacular scenery and wildlife and world class fishing that The Mackay Region is synonymous for” proudly declared Cr Williamson.

“115,000 locals and nearly a million visitors can’t be wrong, when it comes to identifying Mackay as a must visit destination, in an A to Z tour of Australia”.

Supporting the M is for Mackay campaign is General of Mackay Tourism, Tas Webber, who said Mackay symbolises all that is great about Australian communities.

“M has to stand for Mackay. Ask people around the world, what’s a typical Aussie town and you’ll get features like glorious beaches, a tropical climate, lots of iconic Australian wildlife, and of course a friendly community. The Mackay Region ticks all these boxes.

Mr Webber said the success of previous Sunrise weather crosses demonstrates why Mackay will again prove a big hit with viewers.

“In March, viewers, and even the Sunrise hosts, were left speechless as Wallabies and Kangaroos ventured down to the beach as another glorious sunrise lit up Cape Hillsborough”.

“This campaign is about highlighting The Mackay Region. Viewers are sure to be inspired by our inquisitive Platypus, photogenic Wallabies, premier fishing and pioneering sugar industry, and will vote that M is for Mackay, and hopefully book their next holiday.
