Sun shines on Mackay Tourism’s new holiday campaign

Mackay Tourism will focus on one of its most popular domestic tourist markets in an upcoming campaign to drive more visitors to the region for a summer holiday.

The month-long campaign, which starts today, will see Mackay Tourism and 16 tour and accommodation operators from across the region, entice older families* to consider The Mackay Region for a family holiday.

The campaign includes summer-inspired social media activity, special holiday deal packages, and inspiration on what to see and do in The Mackay Region through online advertising and content, an itinerary and consumer newsletter.

Dolphin Heads Resort Manager Lyn Ischenko said the Resort is preparing for a busy summer period, and has already seen an increase in bookings compared to 2016.

“Our bookings are quite heavy for the spring and summer months – it’s great to see families coming back this year,” Ms Ischenko said.

“Visitors are pleasantly surprised at the beautiful tropical view from Dolphin Heads Resort. The three swimming pools are a big draw card for families as well as the excellent fishing off the beach. We have a mini golf course as well as the great sandy beach of Eimeo that you can walk to at low tide.”

Mackay Tourism Marketing Manager, Nele Hahne, said the campaign will target visitors from within the four-hour drive market and South East Queensland, in time for their summer holidays.

“Research has shown that older families within the four-hour drive market are typically more inclined to consider a holiday in The Mackay Region. Our aim is to drive this message directly to those who may be considering where they should go this summer,” Ms Hahne said.

“Domestic overnight visitor expenditure was approximately $382 million for the year ending March 2017, so we are looking to capitalise on that through this campaign.”

Ms Hahne added that the deals within the campaign were not only for visitors.

“Mackay region locals who want to experience some ‘time out’ can also take advantage of the deals we have running – it’s the perfect chance for the whole family to experience what’s in their own backyard.”

A great deal offered throughout the campaign includes 10% off Regional Air’s new scenic flight ‘Pioneer Valley to Sea’ Air Tour.

Tourism operators involved include Sarina Sugar Shed, Rainforest Scuba, Windmill Motel & Reception Centre, Mackay Resort Motel, Comfort Resort Blue Pacific, The Shores, Riviera Mackay, Pacific Sands, Coral Cay Resort, Big 4 Mackay Marina Tourist Park, Regional Air, Ibis Mackay, Potter’s Oceanside Motel, Miners Lodge Motel, Dolphin Heads Resort and Reeforest Adventure Tours.
