Sunrise to Showcase The Mackay Region

Mackay Tourism is thrilled to announce Cape Hillsborough will host the weather segments of popular Channel 7 breakfast program Sunrise, on Wednesday 21 March.

Recording TV ratings regularly above 400,000 viewers, Sunrise will feature seven live crosses to weather presenter James Tobin, who will be on location at Cape Hillsborough National Park.

A regular feature of Sunrise, the weather segment showcases a tourism destination to its hundreds of thousands of viewers. Wednesday’s weather crosses will have viewers busy planning their next holiday as they witness the unspoiled natural beauty and adventures of The Mackay Region.

The weather crosses will feature footage of tourism experiences across The Mackay Region highlighted by its ‘hero experiences’ such swimming with platypus at Eungella National Park, world-class fishing locations and of course the famous wallabies and kangaroos beach sunrise experience.

Local tourism operators and Mackay Tourism members James Warren from Rainforest Scuba, Jason Kidd from Inshore Fishing Charters, and Ben Atherton from Cape Hillsborough Tourist Park will be interviewed throughout the morning by Sunrise weather presenter James Tobin.

Mackay Tourism General Manager, Tas Webber welcomed Sunrise to the Mackay Region and trusts their viewers will be inspired by what they see. “The Mackay Region is fast becoming one of Australia’s premier tourism destinations and Sunrise viewers will agree that our Nature. Reserved. branding is well deserved.”

Mr Webber continued “The Mackay Region is proud to host the Sunrise weather team and we would like to thank our members, Sunrise and Tourism and Events Queensland for helping us share our region to the world”.

Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson was delighted that the Mackay Region was to be promoted on Sunrise.

“Hundreds of thousands of Australians watch Sunrise every morning and Cape Hillsborough hosting seven live weather crosses will generate significant interest in what our region has to offer visitors.”

Cr. Williamson continued “Mackay is looking forward to welcoming James Tobin and the Sunrise Weather team and we trust they will enjoy their time spent in the region”.

Ben Atherton from Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park will be hosting the Sunrise weather team.

“The Team at Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park are looking forward to welcoming the Sunrise weather team, to once again share the stunning location and beauty found at Cape Hillsborough”.

“Our Wallabies and Kangaroos on the beach sunrise experience is a grounding nature experience that will leave viewers in awe of reconnecting with nature and loved ones” said Mr Atherton.

Sunrise will be visiting tourism destinations throughout Queensland in the lead-up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
