Locals extend invitation to Mackay

Cape Hillsborough local Ben Atherton is the hero in the latest Queensland tourism promotional video as he invites tourists to discover what he describes as ‘nature at its best’.

Produced in partnership between Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and Mackay Tourism, the 90 second video is a compelling local invitation sharing insights on how to explore one of Queensland’s gems – Cape Hillsborough – like a local.

TEQ Chief Executive Officer Leanne Coddington said the video was part of a local invitation series featuring Queensland’s new ‘Find your perfect next’ campaign.

“Travellers are increasingly looking to explore the hidden secrets of a destination and experience the local’s favourite haunts while they’re on holidays,” Ms Coddington said.

“Having real locals tell their story, share their secrets and invite travellers to explore their part of the world is such a genuine, Queensland way to make this series so special.

“Ben speaks with such passion for Cape Hillsborough and, through his children’s eyes, shows viewers how to explore even more of the area than the famous ‘Wallabies on the beach’ experience.

“The video shows why your perfect next encounter should be in the Mackay region.”

General Manager Mackay Tourism Tas Webber said Mackay Region locals took great pride in showcasing their region to the world.

“Our best tourism ambassadors are ultimately our friendly locals. As a region, we are delighted to share with visitors our unique nature-based experiences and leave with them memories that will last a lifetime,

“Every morning, right on sunrise, wallabies come down to the beach at Cape Hillsborough leaving visitors mesmerised. Locals like Ben strive to make each moment a visitor spends in Mackay a memorable one. Our locals are passionate about ensuring visitors experience the natural beauty and wonder of the place we are lucky enough to call home.”

Ben’s local invitation video is being promoted together with a blog themed ’48 hours in Cape Hillsborough and The Hibiscus Coast’ to families and empty nesters in Brisbane, South East Queensland and Sydney over the next fortnight in a joint campaign funded by TEQ and Mackay Tourism.
