Tourism's Future in Good Hands
Young tourism professionals from Mackay and The Whitsundays will have access to professional development, knowledge and skills, following the launch of Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s (QTIC) Young Professionals Mentoring Program.
The QTIC Young Professionals Mentoring Program now in its ninth year, provides a competitive edge for employees in the tourism industry who are 35 years or younger to gain insightful professional development, knowledge and skills through the sharing of information and experience.
Participants of the Young Professionals Mentoring Program are specifically matched with a senior industry professional.
Young tourism professional and Mackay Aqua Park Owner, Amanda Pelagalli has been selected for the program and will receive one on one mentoring with Julie Telford from Red Cat Adventures.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from an experienced tourism professional and learn new skills to benefit my career, business and the Mackay community. Mentoring from an innovative and very successful tourism operator like Julie will prove invaluable,” said Ms Pelagalli.
“I hope that I can inspire young people looking for a rewarding career in tourism to get involved and utilise the support and guidance available,” she said.
Also receiving mentoring with be Haylee Eaves, Membership Officer and Cherie Morel, Marketing Assistant from Tourism Whitsundays.
Amongst the mentors for the 2019 QTIC Young Professionals Mentoring Program is Mackay Tourism General Manager Tas Webber.
“It’s a great honour to partake in the QTIC Young Professionals Mentoring Program, and as a mentor, pass on my experience in the tourism industry,” he said.
Mr Webber continued, “Tourism, perhaps more than any other industry, is full of exuberant, young professionals who all deliver quality services that collectively make Queensland’s tourism industry one of the world’s most successful and vibrant.”
“I’m looking forward to contributing to the development of our young tourism professionals, and helping my mentee continue their path of success,” said Mr Webber.
QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said Queensland’s dynamic tourism industry had accumulated a wealth of experienced and highly professional experts. “To prepare for a prosperous future it is important for us to share this knowledge with the next generation of up-and-coming tourism industry leaders,” he said.
“Many previous mentees have gone to pursue inspiring careers. It’s not just the mentees, but also the mentors who often comment on the energising impact this interactive program delivers.”
