Two Mackay operators take out top tourism awards

The Sarina Sugar Shed and Ibis Mackay have been named alongside some of the country’s top tourism operators at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

Sarina Sugar Shed represented Queensland in two categories, and secured a silver in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Brewers category.

Ibis Mackay also clinched a silver award, after being named the second best Standard Accommodation Hotel in Australia.

Australian Tourism Awards Chairman, Daniel Gschwind, said the Awards recognise and celebrate businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to quality tourism products and experiences. The Awards were held for the first time in Darwin.

“It is fantastic achievement for all businesses to reach finalist level at the Australian Tourism Awards, and so for those taking home Gold, it is a true mark of their professionalism and commitment to quality visitor experiences,” Mr Gschwind said.

“It is due to businesses such as these and their staff that our industry continues to prosper and rise as an important contributor to jobs and economic growth across Australia.”

The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards are hosted by the Australian Tourism Industry Council and are proudly supported by Qantas, Tourism Australia and this year’s host destination, Tourism NT.
