Campaign to Inspire and Reward Locals

ESCAPING the confines of their home is a priority for most locals post lockdown, but now Mackay and Isaac residents can be rewarded for getting out and exploring the region.

Mackay Tourism’s #mymackay and #ourisaac competitions provide incentive to showcase the natural wonders of our backyard, with incredible prizes on offer for those who can best capture the beauty of our region.

Snapped a great photo of the wallabies at Cape Hillsborough? Taken an incredible drone shot of Wolfang Peak? Simply share it to Instagram or Facebook with the tag #mymackay or #ourisaac and you could win yourself a DJI drone, a two-night stay at Comfort Resort Blue Pacific or the most coveted prize – a full day photography tutorial with well-known travel influencer Mark Fitz.

Mackay Tourism Chief Executive Officer Tas Webber said the competition was a way for locals to showcase the region to friends and relatives.

“In 2019 the Mackay and Isaac regions welcomed 207,000 Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR) visitors who stayed over 800,000 nights. The #mymackay and #ourisaac competitions are all about inspiring our locals to be proud of their region, and to showcase it to friends and family and encourage them to visit,” he said.

He continued, “stimulating growth in the VFR market will be particularly important to tourism during the aftermath of COVID-19 as many of us have now gone months without seeing our loved ones and what better destination to welcome family and friends than the Mackay and Isaac regions.”

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker encouraged Isaac locals to explore and share their beautiful region.

“In a region as expansive and diverse as ours, I’m expecting a spectacular assortment of images, each representing what makes the Isaac region home,” she said.

“Take this opportunity to explore your region, visit your favourite fishing spot, complete a hike, or discover a new swimming spot, whatever it is just post a photo with the relevant #ourisaac or #mymackay hashtag and you may win some very exciting prizes,” she added.

The #ourisaac and #mymackay competitions will run simultaneously, with each competition calling on Isaac and Mackay residents to share their special moments or favourite local destinations.

The competition will run until July 19 with a series of Facebook polls and an expert judging panel to narrow down the top 20 finalists. The winning photos will be announced on July 27.

Competition details for the #ourisaac and #mymackay competitions are available at www.mackayregion.com/locals.
