Strike Gold in the Isaac Region
Ready to dig a little deeper? The Isaac Region is home to Queensland’s most accessible goldfields, where history and adventure collide.
Just 290 km southwest of Mackay, Clermont’s golden past still glimmers beneath the surface, and you could be the one to uncover it.
For nearly 160 years, prospectors have chased fortune here. Today, you can join the modern-day gold rush with nothing more than a fossicking licence, a metal detector, and a thirst for adventure.
Step Back in Time at Mount Britton
Once a bustling gold mining town in the 1880s, Mount Britton now whispers stories of triumph and tragedy. Wander the old street grid, explore relics, and visit the pioneers’ cemetery. Rumour has it the big vein was never found—maybe you’ll be the lucky one!
Stay a while at the grassy campgrounds with picnic shelters, water, and toilets. Watch the sunrise paint Sydney Heads in fiery reds and golds, and soak up views from the lookout over the Marling Spikes. This is history with a wild twist.
