Cape Palmerston National Park camping

Sarina & Surrounds

Overview

Description

Cape Palmerston National Park is one of the few remaining areas of natural coastline in the Mackay area. Windswept headlands, rainforest, swamps and sand dunes are shadowed by the imposing peak of Mount Funnel.

The park offers remote coastal camping opportunities for self-sufficient campers. The park is very remote and access via roads or beaches is possible by four-wheel-drive vehicle only. Beach access is tide-dependant and you need sand-driving experience.

Cape Creek and Windmill Bay camping areas are shaded by she-oaks and have easy access to water for fishing and boating.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site. Book your camp site and purchase your camping permit in advance. Bookings can be made on-line, over the counter or by phone.
