Middlemount is one and a half hours drive from Emerald and three hours from Rockhampton and Mackay. Middlemount, only 30 years old, is a purpose-built coal mining town. lt has all the facilities expected of a country town. These include a shopping centre, banks, swimming pool, golf course, hotel, cafes, sports centre and well maintained parks and gardens. It is only a stones' throw to majestic Bundoora Dam, which is great for skiing and swimming. Bundoora Dam has native and stocked fish and facilities include free camping, toilets, barbeques and picnic tables.

Blue Mountain Park has free barbeque facilities and panoramic views as well as a playground for kids. Check out the Golf and Bowls clubs whilst in town as well and if you are visiting in August, the annual race day is not to be missed.
