Flaggy Rock earned its distinctive name from the hard rocky ground that once formed the early roadway through the area. Long before modern highways, the district was known as 'Yukalgi' — meaning "home of the Death Adder" — and served as an important horse changeover station for coaches travelling the coastal route.
Today, Flaggy Rock is a favourite stop for travellers looking to stretch their legs, and soak up the relaxed country atmosphere. Surrounded by lush cane fields and rural scenery, it's a great place to break up the journey and discover a little local history along the way.
