Grant to Boost Tourism Leadership Opportunities

In a boost to The Mackay Region’s growing tourism industry, Mackay Tourism has announced that it will receive $35,500 in funding as part of the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.

Mackay Tourism, supported by Regional Development Australia, applied for funding in December last year. The approved grant will be used by Mackay Tourism to deliver the Regional Tourism Leadership Program.

General Manager of Mackay Tourism, Tas Webber, said the $35,500 grant would help foster leadership development opportunities across the region’s tourism industry.

“With tourism now an essential pillar of Mackay’s economy, the importance of attracting and nurturing industry leaders is essential”.

Mr Webber continued “The Regional Tourism Leadership Program will create the tourism industry leaders of tomorrow, today”.

“The Regional Tourism Leadership Program will develop and execute a leadership training program that will ensure tourism continues to be a significant contributor to The Mackay Region’s economy” he said.

CEO of Regional Development Australia Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday Ben Wearmouth, said the Building Better Regions Fund is an example of the commitment of the Australian Government to grow regional economies.

“Working with Mackay Tourism, we were able to identify the Building Better Regions Fund as a potential source of funding for their Regional Tourism Leadership Program and we were thrilled to see them have success with their well developed application”.

Details on the Building Better Regions Fund is available at www.business.gov.au. More details on the Regional Tourism Leadership Program will be announced at a later date.
