Lucky Hooked on Mackay Winner Announced

The lucky winner of the Jack Link’s Hooked on Mackay fishing competition has been announced today at the Mackay Airport.

Mackay Regional Councillor Justin Englert, Mackay Airport Aviation Operations Manager Philip Clark and Mackay Tourism Marketing Manager Morgana McDeed announced that Shaun Sloan from Dysart had won.

In store for Shaun and three of his mates, is a once in a lifetime fishing experience at Eungella Dam. Guided by Australian Fishing Championships Team Jack Link’s pro tournament anglers Mitch Cone and Matthew Langford, the winning party will target the region’s prized sooty grunter and barramundi.

Cr Englert congratulated Shaun on winning this ultimate fishing prize.

“Fishing for two iconic and powerful species in Australia’s premier fishing destination is an experience in itself, but to be guided by professional tournament anglers guarantees this to be a fishing trip Shaun will remember forever,” he said.

Since its launch on 16 September, the Hooked on Mackay competition attracted a total of 1,514 entries.

Anglers from as far away as Darwin and Kalgoorlie entered the draw through activation stations at Mackay Airport, the Mackay Visitor Information Centre, Sarina’s Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre, at local fishing tackle stores and motels, online at hookedonmackay.com.au and across social media.

Mackay Tourism Marketing Manager Morgana McDeed spoke of the competition’s success.

“Partnering with Jack Link’s, Mackay Regional Council, Mackay Airport, the Australian Fishing Championships and several local businesses have not just advertised this competition but promoted The Mackay Region as a fishing destination to all new markets,” she said.

Ms McDeed went on to say, “although there was the one competition winner, the thousands of people that entered the draw have now considered The Mackay Region for a fishing holiday, the crucial first step to getting them Hooked on Mackay.”

“With barramundi season closing today, and Mackay’s three impoundments renowned for their incredible summer barramundi and sooty grunter fishing, I would encourage any fishing enthusiast to come and fish The Mackay Region to experience it for themselves,” said Ms McDeed.
