Mackay Marina Receives Environmental Accreditation

The Mackay Marina Village has been re-accredited as a Level 3 – Clean Marina and has been recognised as a Fish Friendly Marina.

Managed by the Marina Industries Association, the International Clean Marina Program is a voluntary, incentive-based education and outreach program, that encourages environmental compliance and the use of best management practises for marinas.

A Level 3 Clean Marina, as achieved by Mackay Marina, is the highest accreditation available for marinas committed to environmental management.

Mackay Marina’s ‘Fish Friendly’ accreditation also recognises the marina’s commitment to actively improve the marina’s fish habitat.

General Manager of Mackay Marina Village, Ben Anderson said the re-accreditation was vital to the environmental sustainability of Mackay’s Marina.

“The marina and associated rock wall structures actually create a fantastic habitat for marine life including corals”.

Mr Anderson continued, “The Mackay Marina has therefore committed to protecting and promoting our environment, and being reaccredited as a Level 3 – Clean Marina and Fish Friendly Marina signifies this”.

Congratulating Mackay Marina Village was Mackay Tourism General Manager, Tas Webber.

“The Mackay Region is lucky to have a world class marina that acts as a tourism drawcard and helps to sustain our environment”.

“Thousands of travellers a year visit the Mackay Marina and with continued environmental management, the marina will remain popular with visitors and wildlife for years to come”, said Mr Webber.
