Meet Mackay's Newest, Cutest Residents These School Holidays
Guests on the Cape Hillsborough Sunrise with the Wallabies Tour had their hearts melted this morning as two joeys first appeared from inside their mother’s pouch.
To help celebrate this occasion, Mackay Tourism is offering a half price special to encourage locals, and school holiday visitors to witness these joeys’ first hops out into the world, expected during the next week or so.
The two joeys will be joined on the beach at Cape Hillsborough by Charlie and Molly. Joeys who last month ventured out from their mother’s pouch and have already proven a hit with tour guests and followers of the Visit Mackay Facebook and Instagram pages.
Ranger Sam Tilden, Tour Guide of the Wallabies, said the school holidays special is a great opportunity for people to meet our regions icons and enjoy and sustain this bucket list experience.
“Cape Hillsborough is magical this time of year, and the Sunrise Wallaby Tour offers families an informative, safe and unforgettable experience with the wallabies”.
Ranger Sam continued, “new additions Charlie and Molly, along with resident kangaroos Bridget and Emmy-Lou love the attention and are as interested in us as we are of them”
Last month Mackay Tourism shared on it’s Facebook page a video of Charlie inspecting tour guests, reaching over six thousand Facebook users. Australia.com meanwhile, shared on Instagram, a photo of Bridget in full hop across the beach, which has been liked 95 thousand times.
Along with the half price school holiday special, Mackay Tourism will also be running a competition for locals and visitors to name the two new joeys.
To enter, people will need to like the Visit Mackay Facebook page and comment their suggested name. Users with the most creative name that best celebrates The Mackay Region will win family passes to meet the wallabies.
Locals and visitors to The Mackay Region can book these tours at www.sunrisewallabytours.com. Cape Hillsborough Sunrise with the Wallabies Tours, from Saturday for two weeks, will be at the special price of $11 for adults, $7 for children and $30 for families. Daily tours commence 30 minutes before sunrise.
