Plenty of Local Flavours to Discover

Discovering the incredible palate of local flavours on offer across The Mackay Region has been made easy today with the unveiling of a new itinerary from Mackay Tourism.

Released as part of Mackay Tourism’s Winter Campaign, the itinerary encourages visitors and locals to seek out delicious culinary experiences in every corner of The Mackay Region, and indulge in some of the finest local flavours available.

Chair of Mackay Tourism, and Owner of The Old Station Teahouse Michele Shea encourages people to experience the local cuisine available in The Mackay Region.

“The Discover Local Flavours itinerary features nearly 30 local restaurants, cafes, hotels and markets,” she said.

“The Mackay Region is rich in unique dining experiences, from meals with million dollars views at Eimeo and Eungella, to local farmers’ markets showcasing the finest local produce direct from the paddock,” said Mrs Shea.

Mrs Shea continued, “our contemporary city fine dining is also developing a reputation to rival anything from the big cities. I’d encourage locals and visitors to get out and explore the incredible local flavours that define our region.”

One of these modern dining experiences featuring in the new itinerary is the 9th Lane Grind, one of Mackay’s trendiest, most popular cafés. Owner and Executive Chef Kristy Borg, and Head Chef Dylan Lattimore are confident the new itinerary will encourage visitation.

“Mackay is home to an abundance of delicious local flavours that collectively make our region a true dining experience,” said Ms Borg.

“At 9th Lane Grind we pride ourselves on sourcing local produce and indulging our customers with a unique dining experience and delicious homemade desserts,” she said.

Ms Borg continued, “visitors are pleasantly surprised at Mackay’s thriving food scene and this new itinerary is packed full of exciting local flavours that people will love.“

The Discover Local Flavours itinerary is available online at, and on the @VisitMackay Facebook page. The itinerary is also available from the Mackay Visitor Information Centre at City Gates, and the Mackay Region Visitor Information, located at Sarina.

Famed food blogger and social media influencer Lorraine Elliott, known as ‘Not Quite Nigella’, has also been sourced by Mackay Tourism to experience the local flavours of The Mackay Region in early April.

From this famil, dining experiences from across the region will be showcased to Not Quite Nigella’s more than 100,000 combined social media followers.
