The St Lawrence Creek Bridge Memorial stands as a quiet tribute to the engineering ingenuity and transport history that shaped St Lawrence.
The St Lawrence Creek Bridge Memorial stands as a quiet tribute to the engineering ingenuity and transport history that helped shape St Lawrence and the wider Isaac region. The memorial commemorates the original 1921 railway bridge that once crossed St Lawrence Creek as part of the Great Northern Railway which extended from Brisbane to Cairns.
The original bridge played a vital role in connecting communities and supporting the movement of goods during the early 20th century. In recent years, it was replaced by a modern 250-metre concrete bridge, designed to withstand the coastal conditions, ensuring safe and reliable transport for generations to come.
The memorial offers a reflective stop for visitors interested in local history, rail heritage and engineering achievements. It also serves as a scenic photography spot, with changing tides and wide skies creating ever-shifting views.
Nearby, Marg's Park provides a welcoming place to pause and relax. Named after Margaret Baldwin, known to many as mother to all in St Lawrence, the park is a pleasant spot to enjoy a break, picnic on the shaded tables, stretch your legs or unwind while exploring the town.
Together, the St Lawrence Creek Bridge Memorial and Marg's Park offer a blend of history, scenery and community space, inviting visitors to slow down and appreciate the stories and landscapes that define St Lawrence.
