There's no Place Like Home for Fishing

From fishing coral reef waters and island bays, to cruising the creeks for Mangrove Jack and Mud Crabs, or wetting a line in the dam for an iconic Barramundi to trekking freshwater streams for a feisty Sooty Grunter – there is something for every fisherperson in The Mackay and Isaac Region.

Mackay Tourism’s 2018 #mymackay competition is now open and welcomes locals to showcase what you love about where you live – especially fishing.

Running until July 6, the competition offers the opportunity to share your favourite experiences within the region, as many times as you like and in any format.

Mackay Tourism General Manager Tas Webber said that our region is a Australia’s premier recreational fishing destination “as we are home to the most diverse fishing experiences in the world”.

“If wetting a line is the goal, there are almost too many options to choose from,” Mr Webber said.

“Surrounded by inshore islands and reefs, centrally situated from three world record holding barramundi and sooty grunter dams, as well as picturesque salt and freshwater river systems, there is something for everyone, and then some.”

This year’s #mymackay competition features a special Fisherman’s Friend prize specific to fishing related competition entries, thanks to Inshore Fishing Mackay.

The prize offers a half day charter with an experienced local angler, exploring the best fishing our region has to offer, plus a professional video to capture the experience for you.

“We wouldn't ask you to share your favourite spot - but we do want to see your catch,” Mr Webber said.
