Vote for Mackay and Win
Voting is currently underway for the RACQ People’s Choice Awards and Mackay Tourism is calling for local support. To be awarded at the 2019 Queensland Tourism Awards, the RACQ People’s Choice Awards recognise the state’s most popular tourism experience or service, and accommodation provider.
In the running for the RACQ People’s Choice Accommodation Award is Ibis Mackay. General Manger of Ibis Mackay, Adriette Meyer encouraged locals and visitors to The Mackay Region to vote.
“To be recognised as the RACQ People’s Choice Award winner would be a fantastic achievement for Ibis Mackay and would demonstrate our communities support for the tourism industry and its operators,” she said.
Ms Meyer added further encouragement for people to vote. “Voting for a Mackay Region accommodation provider, service or tour will not only help showcase our region, but also put you in the draw to win a $5,000 RACQ Travel Voucher,” she explained.
Nominated in the tourism experience or service category is the multi-award winning and regional Hall of Fame member Sarina Sugar Shed. The interactive, educational and tasty tours make the Sarina Sugar Shed a popular choice for the RACQ People’s Choice Award.
Also nominated is the Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre. Opened in July last year, the state-of-the-art information centre is situated in the Sarina Field of Dreams parkland, at the gateway to The Mackay Region. The information centre sets a new industry standard for cutting edge, exciting, fun and customer focused visitor information services for Queensland.
Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre Volunteer Bev Donald explained what it would mean for the region to win the RACQ People’s Choice Award.
“Our region’s Visitor Information Centre is heavily volunteer based. It’s volunteers like us, along with our Visitor Information Officers, that welcome thousands of visitors to our beautiful region, encouraging them to stay, explore and invest into our local community,” she said.
It would be especially meaningful to the volunteers, and a testament the region’s tourism industry to be recognised with such a prestigious award,” she said.
