Wallaby Experience in New National Marketing Campaign

Tourism and Events Queensland have unveiled a new multi-million-dollar marketing campaign that features Mackay’s very own Cape Hillsborough Sunrise with the Wallabies experience.

The Holiday Here This Year campaign forms part of a wider Tourism Australia initiative aimed at encouraging Australians to holiday domestically this year in order to support the regions affected by the devastating bushfires and drought.

To launch this campaign Tourism and Events Queensland have released a 54 second video across their social media channels. This video showcases several of Queensland’s iconic destinations including the Great Barrier Reef, Gold Coast and Cape Hillsborough’s wallabies at sunrise introduced by Indigenous Ranger Abe Weiba.

With Tourism and Events Queensland’s total social media following exceeding a quarter of a million people, Cape Hillsborough’s inclusion looks set to further grow The Mackay Region’s appeal as a tourism destination.

Chief Executive Officer of Mackay Tourism Tas Webber detailed what this opportunity will mean for the region.

“Seeing the final product, featuring Cape Hillsborough on Tourism and Events Queensland’s social media channels was a very proud moment,” he said.

“Abe’s line of ‘it’s a beautiful place to holiday here,’ with a classic Cape Hillsborough sunrise, Wedge Island and of course the pod of wallabies in the background, envisages the quintessential Aussie holiday and is sure to inspire thousands of people to discover the natural paradise of our region,” he added.

Mr Webber continued, “featuring in this video are many of Queensland’s world-famous experiences, and it’s a testament to the development of tourism in The Mackay Region to have Cape Hillsborough and its wallabies presented alongside the likes of the Daintree Rainforest and Bob Irwin at Australia Zoo. Domestic visitation was worth $19 billion to Queensland’s economy in 2019, and the more our region represents Queensland, the greater the share of this considerable investment for Mackay.”

The It's a beautiful place to holiday here video can be watched on the Visit Queensland and Visit Mackay Facebook pages or on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0zzkEIkLqc.
