Young Tourism Leader to Inspire Next Generation

Mackay Tourism welcomes the appointment of local businesswoman Amanda Pelagalli as a Queensland Government recognised Young Tourism Leader.

Now in its third year, the Young Tourism Leaders program aims to inspire young people to pursue a career in tourism by engaging with school, TAFE and university students across Queensland.

Ms Pelagalli is the Owner and Manager of Wake House Australia, the merger of Mackay Aqua Park and Cable Ski Park. Ms Pelagalli also brings experience as an award-winning travel and business consultant.

Adding to her skillset as a Young Tourism Leader is Ms Pelagalli’s participation in the Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s (QTIC) Young Professionals Mentoring Program. Ms Pelagalli said her experiences and insights from operating a tourism business and taking part in the Young Professionals Mentoring Program will prove useful as a Young Tourism Leader.

“It’s a great honour to be recognised as a Young Tourism Leader,” she said.

Ms Pelagalli added “tourism is a fun, and incredibly rewarding industry to be involved in. In my role as a Young Tourism Leader, I am looking to inspire the next generation of tourism professionals and pass on all I have learnt.”

“I’d encourage any young person looking for an exciting and satisfying career to consider tourism and take a look at the resources available from youngtourismleaders.qld.gov.au, and to follow @youngtourismleaders on Instagram.”

General Manager of Mackay Tourism Tas Webber, congratulated Ms Pelagalli on being recognised as a Young Tourism Leader.

“Amanda has developed the Mackay Aqua Park, and now Wake House Australia into prominent tourist attractions and undoubtably contributed to the booming growth of tourism in The Mackay Region,” he said.

Mr Webber continued, “Amanda has been a great asset to tourism in our region, and her skills and insights as a Young Tourism Leader will be of great benefit to securing the future success of tourism.”

Applications for the next round of Young Tourism Leaders are open until 26 July 2019. If you know of a tourism professional, aged between 18 and 35 years, who would excel in a mentoring role, nominate them at youngtourismleaders.qld.gov.au/nominate.
