Getting Around Mackay

Easy ways to explore once you arrive

You’ve made it to Mackay Isaac. Now it’s time to explore.

Whether you’re here for a quick getaway or settling in for a longer stay, getting around Mackay Isaac is simple and flexible. From public transport to hire cars, there are plenty of ways to move through the region at your own pace and discover what’s waiting just beyond the main streets.

However you like to travel, Mackay Isaac has an option to match.

Public transport with Kinetic

If you’re looking for a simple and affordable way to get around, Kinetic operates Mackay’s local bus network, connecting the airport, city centre, beaches, Pioneer Valley, and surrounding suburbs including Sarina.

Kinetic keeps communities moving across Australia and beyond, with a strong focus on reliable, accessible transport.

Here in Mackay, that also means looking ahead. Kinetic is working alongside industry and government to trial more sustainable transport options, including a commitment to year-on-year reductions in emissions. They’ve introduced 300 zero emission buses across Australia and New Zealand and will transition their urban bus fleet to a fully electric fleet by 2035 – so you know while Kinetic are moving you around the region, it’s in a way that treads lightly on the planet.

Kinetic also offers long distance services through the Isaac region, including Nebo, Moranbah and Clermont, to get your Aussie bush experience without the long travel times. This service also connects to Emerald in the Central Highlands Region to continue your adventure. It’s a great option for travellers looking to venture further inland without the need to drive.

It’s an easy way to explore, whether you’re staying local or heading a little further afield. Plan your journey or view routes and bookings to get started.

Hire a car for road trip vibes

Car hire is available directly from Mackay Airport, making it easy to hit the road as soon as you land. You’ll find a range of well-known brands and providers including Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar, Thrifty, FleetCrew and Ezy Vehicle Rentals, giving you plenty of options depending on your travel style.

From there, you can explore further afield, from coastal drives and rainforest escapes to outback towns and hidden gems across the region.
